Inicio de operaciones: 30 de marzo 2025 / Nuevo Aeropuerto Jorge Chávez

A landing of more capacity

At the beginning of 2021, the first works began to build another component of the project: the second runway. For this, the land had to be cleared, which involved the movement of 4 million cubic meters of earth. At the most intense moment of the tasks, more than 1000 machines and vehicles were used.

The second runway is 3,480 meters long and has a network of taxiways over 10 kilometers long. This will double the operational capacity of the airport, allowing two landings per minute.

Currently, the civil works of the new runway have been 100% completed.

Benefits of the second runway

Greater connectivity

Receiving more passengers and airlines that wish to fly to Peru will be
allowed.

Greater operability

Making up to two landing operations per minute will be possible.

Greater capacity

By having a runway width of 45 meters, large passenger aircraft such as
Boeing 747 and Airbus A340 can be received.
