Inicio de operaciones: 29 de enero 2025 / Nuevo Aeropuerto Jorge Chávez

Second landing strip and new control tower began operations successfully.

  • The inaugural event was attended by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, and the Minister of Transport and Communications, Paola Lazarte.
  • The second strip was inaugurated by the President of the Republic and its use will be progressive as established by the corresponding authorities.

On April 3rd, the first commercial plane took off from the new Jorge Chavez strip, destined for the city of Tarapoto with 140 passengers on board. That same day, the first landing of a plane on the new infrastructure was also carried out. In this case, it was an aircraft from the Peruvian Air Force. Both operations were carried out without any mishap.

The first operations of the new strip were made possible thanks to the joint work between Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac), and the aeronautical community in general, under the supervision of Ositran.

The new infrastructure, which is part of the Jorge Chavez expansion megaproject, will allow Peru to become one of the main air connections on the continent. In addition, it will increase the operational capacity of the airport and guarantee greater security in case of contingencies. Simultaneous full use is planned for January 2025 with the new terminal.

Processes of familiarization with all involved parties are still being implemented, in addition to pending maintenance of runway 1.
