Lima Airport has announced the following regarding the change in the opening date of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport and recent updates on its infrastructure and systems:
- The opening date has been set for March 30, 2025, following a joint decision with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the airport community. This change is necessary to ensure that all operational aspects are fully ready, guaranteeing an efficient and seamless transition. The primary goal is to provide optimal experience for both passengers and all stakeholders in the sector.
- Building an airport for 40 million passengers is a complex and iterative process. This is the first time in Peru that an airport infrastructure of 270,000 m² has been constructed in three years, following a lengthy expropriation process that took over ten years. This project marks a milestone in airport infrastructure in the country. In this context, the commitment of all involved entities is crucial, especially in this final stage, to ensure successful operations.
- Regarding the information shared with participating entities during tests conducted at the new terminal, it is important to clarify that since these tests began in August 2024, more than 15 detailed reports have been provided to airlines and operators, consolidating observations and improvements to ensure the functionality and operability of the new terminal.
- In collaboration with the MTC, plans are in place to conduct trials with real aircraft, allowing ramp operators and airport personnel to familiarize themselves with the facilities and procedures of the new terminal. These practical simulations will ensure that all staff are prepared to manage operations safely and efficiently from day one.
- Lima Airport highlights MTC’s initiatives to enhance road connectivity to the new terminal, including new public transport routes and an increase in police presence to strengthen security in the airport’s external area. These measures will provide a safe experience for passengers and users.
We reiterate our commitment to the entire airport community by delivering a modern airport that benefits all users, promotes national development, and enhances travel experiences for both Peruvians and international visitors. We are dedicated to working collaboratively with the entire sector during this final stage of the new Jorge Chávez Airport.
